Troubleshooting Thermostat Problems

Quick Checks First

Wireless/Battery Thermostats:

• Replace batteries - Low battery is the #1 cause of wireless thermostat failure
• Check display - Is it showing correctly? Low battery symbol?
• Check receiver - The unit by the boiler needs power and may also have batteries

Wired Thermostats:

• Check power supply to thermostat
• Try turning to maximum - does heating start?
• Check for loose wires behind the thermostat

Common Thermostat Problems

1. Heating Won't Turn On

• Set thermostat 5°C above room temperature
• Check heating schedule/program is correct
• Ensure thermostat is in "Heat" mode not "Off" or "Cool"
• Verify boiler is receiving call for heat (check boiler display)

2. Heating Won't Turn Off

• Thermostat may be in wrong location (near heat source)
• Faulty temperature sensor inside thermostat
• Wiring issue causing constant call for heat

3. Thermostat Display Working But No Response

• Communication lost between thermostat and receiver
• Re-pair wireless devices (check manual for procedure)
• Check receiver is powered and showing correct status

Thermostat Location

Your thermostat should be:

• Away from radiators and heat sources
• Out of direct sunlight
• Not in draughty areas
• At chest height (about 1.5m)
• In a commonly used room (usually hallway or living room)

When to Call a Professional

• Wiring appears damaged or burnt
• Thermostat is very old (10+ years)
• Multiple thermostats in a zoned system
